Preston Smith
Since 2004, Preston has completed more than 300 demographic studies and related projects for school districts in 17 states. Responsible for gathering large amounts of data, analyzing, and editing a final study. Typical studies are from 100 to 200 pages in length. Worked an average of 80-100 hours per week. Compile large amounts of data and perform analysis in Excel, Access and other applications. He has previously worked as a database manager, a systems analyst, a performance auditor, a magazine editor and a reporter on Capitol Hill and the White House.
Preston ran for Jackson County Executive in 2022. He served on the Jackson County Board of Equalization for 14 years as a representative for the Blue Springs School District and has heard more than 10,000 tax appeals. Since 2019, he has thoroughly reviewed the Jackson County Assessment data, and served as the Attorney General’s expert witness in two trials involving Jackson County. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in agriculture and journalism and a master’s degree from UMKC in public administration with a specialization in statistics.
Sean Smith
Sean Smith has advised many of America’s largest businesses and institutions, helping them improve efficiency and customer satisfaction. Having more than 25 years of experience as both a small business entrepreneur and an advisor to large businesses. He now brings his experience to the Jackson County government as he serves our citizens.
Family & Education
Sean is the son of a union firefighter. He moved to Jackson County more than 20 years ago to allow his children to grow and thrive in our wonderful community. Sean’s three children (now all young adults) experienced home-schooling, Christian Schools and public schools, providing them a range of experiences. Sean has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with specialty degrees in both Accounting and Management.
Involvement
Sean has been a supporter of Veterans Community Project and Rehope. Working to provide assistance to veterans who struggle with housing and individuals who have been victims of human trafficking are at the top of Sean’s extensive list of community priorities. Sean is honored to have been elected to the Jackson County Legislature and looks forward to serving the citizens of Jackson County.
He was elected to the Jackson County Legislature in 2022.
